The Ingram cataloging team is comprised of seasoned MLS professionals and a paraprofessional support staff with over 125 years of cataloging and classification experience. Let us become your back-office support staff.
Most cataloging functions are performed within Ingram's BookMARC® cataloging system, which contains almost seven million Library of Congress (LC) records and tens of thousands of Ingram original records. Daily updates from LC ensure that the bibliographic database is current and accurate. The BookMARC system also contains LC Name Authority and Subject Authority records. Ingram records reflect the latest LC-recognized name, uniform title, series, and subject and geographic headings.
In addition to creating original MARC records, Ingram catalogers upgrade CIP and other lower-level records. Ingram cataloging is in accordance with all national rules and standards, including:
- Anglo-American Cataloging Rules, 2nd edition (2002 revision)
- MARC21 Format
- OCLC Bibliographic Formats and Standards
- Library of Congress Subject Headings (25th edition)
- Sears List of Subject Headings (17th edition)
- Library of Congress Classification Schedules
- Dewey Decimal Classification (22nd edition)
Ingram cataloging is consistent with LC rule interpretations and cataloging practices as established and reported in LC's Cataloging Service Bulletin. We customize cataloging by means of a customer profile, allowing the creation of a unique local class number and cutter number. Branch-specific holdings can be attached to the MARC record using smart barcodes created within the BookMARC system.
